PENANG (WHAT TO EAT) - NASI KANDAR BERATUR

PENANG NASI KANDAR BERATUR

Nasi Kandar

My first taste of Nasi Kandar.  Mixture of different types of creamy thick curries gravy that graze your rice.  You can taste the essence of the meat, with a blend of spices, cooked in coconut milk.

I am in love on my first bite as I absolutely love thick meat curries.  Nasi Kandar Beratur opens only at 10pm.  Yes, you heard it right.  The premises are occupied by 2 different vendors, Nasi Kandar Masjid doing the day business and Nasi kandar Beratur taking at night, hence the late hour.  There was a long line when we arrived and queued up to 30 minutes to get our hand on a plate.  Good things must wait…  It is situated beside Kapitan Keling Mosque or Masjid Kapitan Keling (In Malay). Forget about dieting, it is not hard to understand why a crowd (All races) builded up for the food at this late hour.

I usually ordered cabbage fried with turmeric, fried omelette, lady finger, ayam gorang (fried chicken), their mutton and beef curries are stewed till it is tender.  Giant prawn is their speciality too. Use your fingers, get dirty.  You need to blend your rice with the gravy, get every single grain coated. Free seating at this eatery, pick a table and enjoy.

A must eat when you are in Penang.
